Why I use these tools

Milwaukee has been making power tools since 1924 when they made their first powered portable drills for Ford. They have gained a reputation for being durable and powerful, and their line of portable cordless drills, first offered in the ’90s, allowed them to expand their reach to include home and DIY shops. As the battery technology has improved, the tools have become even lighter, more portable, and more practical because of their longer run times.

My personal tool set for home projects and DIY is a Milwaukee set that I began building over 10 years ago. I still have some of the original batteries—and all but one are still going strong. I’ve used them for all kinds of projects over the years and have replaced a few batteries and tools as things wore out. I’ve found that the batteries will last about 10 years and that the tools themselves will last even longer—as long as you don’t drop them off of a 15-foot ladder onto concrete (which is why I had to replace my drill).

In addition to being durable, these tools are both well-balanced so they don’t cause as much strain on your wrist and forearm as some other models that are heavier to the front or back of the tool. This makes them easier to hold steady and use for longer periods of time without wearing out yourself out.

The automatic LED light that turns on when you pull the trigger on these tools saves you when you’re trying to drive a screw in an awkward, dark place and you realize that your work light won’t fit. It seems like a small thing, but it can be so helpful in unexpected ways.

I find that having both of these tools cuts my work time down by allowing me to drill pilot holes for screws with the drill and drive the screws with the impact driver. Because you don’t need to stop to swap bits, you can also wield your tools single-handed, which is helpful if you’re working on a ladder.
