New to Prime Day? We have a primer on everything you need to know. Sales are accurate at the time of publication, but prices and inventory are always subject to change.
Amazon has discontinued the Echo Dot with Clock, but replaced it with something much cuter. The New Echo Spot is a small speaker that looks like an egg cut in half width-wise. It basically looks just like the Echo Pop, but it has a small screen on the top that can show the time, weather updates, and a media playback widget. If you don’t want a big smart display on your table, it’s the perfect sidekick.
For Prime Day, Amazon is discounting the Echo Spot to $44.99, the lowest price that we’ve seen yet. That’s 44% off the usual price of $79.99.
Alexa’s Voice control, plus a little screen
Amazon’s Echo devices are all about Alexa, and that’s true for the Echo Spot too. You can talk to Alexa as you like—ask it questions, play music, and control your Fire TV or other smart devices. This is a small speaker, so it doesn’t provide a lot of bass, but the audio quality is quite good, considering. There are buttons on top to disable the microphone if you’re worried about your privacy.
For me, personally, the delightful part is the half moon screen on top of the Echo Spot. It shows the time in a really legible manner, and it can cycle through other information like the weather and details on the music you’re playing. The screen also supports basic touch controls.
PCMag gave Amazon Echo Spot a “Good” rating, noting, “it sounds as good as the Echo Dot, has a more useful display than the Echo Dot With Clock, offers basic smart home controls, and responds reliably to Alexa commands.”
Looking for something else? Retailers like Walmart, Best Buy, and Home Depot have Prime Day competition sales that are especially useful if you don’t have Amazon Prime.
Walmart’s Prime Day competition sale begins at midnight on July 8 and will include deals up to 50% off. It’s an especially good option if you have Walmart+.
Best Buy’s Prime Day competition sale, “Black Friday in July,” runs through Sunday, July 13 and has some of the best tech sales online. It’s an especially good option if you’re a My Best Buy “Plus” or “Total” member.
Home Depot extended its 4th of July sale through at least July 9, competing with some amazing deals of its own. It’s an especially good option if you’re looking for power tools, appliances, or outdoor equipment.
